"Alright. Goodbye." Arianne smiled a little, but she felt somewhat guilty underneath it. Had she sounded rude?
But... she owed this time to Matthias. After what he had done for her, she couldn't just shrug him off.
And besides... she liked talking to him.
Still, the girl had seemed so disappointed...
After the girl had gone, (ooc: was that phrase there powerplaying? I'm assuming she left...) she turned to Matthias. "Did I sound rude?" she asked, nervously. "I didn't mean to, but I just..." She let her voice trail off, and fell into a guilty silence.

Matthias looked at Arianne. The look of guilt on her face......took him back a few years. It reminded him of himself as a youth, begging around the streets, being forcefully denied by the nobles. That was before he resorted to thievery.
At any rate, he couldn't stand that look.
"Not at all. Don't worry about it.........but you know, you shouldn't let me stop you from playing. The song you sang just now......was beautiful. I wouldn't have minded if you sang it again, or played another song."
And those words were truth.
(ooc: um.....I dont THINK thats powerplaying..........)

"No," she said, sighing. "No, it isn't you. It's just that... I've been singing for money seemingly nonstop the past few days. I just want to sing because I want to now. Not as a trade." She half smiled. "Sounds silly, probably. Heh. Buuuutt...."
She picked up her instrument again. "I won't be singing at all this time. You will."
She started to play the melody again.

A few tables down, Ran stared at the two. She took another drink. " Maybe they're a couple or something." She said to herself, turning away. "I have more inportant things to do than worry about some old people's love life..." With that, she smirked, and her mind was brought back to her own twisted thoughts.

Arianne, not noticing the girl, continued to play the melody and waited for Matthias to begin.

Matthias blushed a little. "Uh........do you think we could go somewhere less formal? No offence on your playing, it's just that.....I don't think I'll sing that great......" He thought he sounded stupid. Why did he say that?

Arianne stopped playing. "Oh," she said. She cast him a sideways glance - was he blushing? "Oh, alright. I'm sorry, I should have thought of that sooner. Obviously you wouldn't want to..." She let her voice trail off, glancing around the room and realizing how embarrassed he must have felt, even with the playing of the instrument, doing this in a place this crowded. She felt awful.
She put the instrument aside. "But as long as we're here, we might as well get something to eat." And as she said that, she realized exactly how hungry she was. She hadn't eaten anything at all that day, really, other than a slice of bread in the morning. She looked back at him. "I mean, if you want to."

"Ah, did I finally hear you say something about eating?" A waitress who had been clearing a nearby table turned and faced them, smiling cheerfully. "You've just been sitting her talking for awhile now. So! What can I get for you?"

((post modified)) Ran's gaze was once again averted to the two. They were now ordering food. " They seem happy together..." She said under her beath. Old memories raced through her head. Sighing, she dropped a small pouch onto the table and took her leave quickly. She didn't want to be caught when the bartender finds out that the pouch just has old rocks in it. She dissapeared into the streets, lost in her own hurtful memories.

Since the post was apparently modified, Ranik's post doesn't make sense any more. Therefore I deleted it.

Arianne looked up at the waitress. Her stomach rumbled, reminding her that whatever satisfaction she got from that bread was long gone. She thought of the three Quartz in the pouch, and then thought of how she had nowhere to stay that night, and no idea how long she would have to live on those three Quartz and a few silvers.
That made her mind up.
"I'll... just have something small," she said. "Anything that's inexpensive and doesn't taste like something that comes out of a horse's back end." She smiled as she said the joke, but it was a preoccupied, distant smile.

"Just some water for me...." He wasn't that hungry. Just parched. He looked at Arianne. "I'll pay, so don't worry."

Instead fo the waitress bringing the water, it was Ranik. "Here is your water," Ranik said to the man. He turned to the woman. "Your foodis still cooking. It is much faster for me to get water than for food to cook. Do either of you needf anything else?" Ranik was talking the polite way he thought a waiter should talk, and he hoped he wasn't overdoing it.

Arianne shook her head. "No, I'm fine. Thank you." Then she turned to Matthias. "And you. No. You aren't paying, at least not all of it. I'm paying at least half, and don't think I'm going to relent on this!" She said the last line jokingly, with a smile, but as far as their meaning went she was completely serious.

"Well, if your mind is completely fixed on paying, even half, I don't think I'll be able to sway it." He drank some of the water. "Financial issues aside, what about this job you seem to be offering to me? I assume you want me to sing, at any rate."
