Arianne felt drained. She had arrived not long before, and had wondered aimlessly around the emcampment for some time. She wasn't sure when she started to feel so disgustingly ill, but once she had, she soon found herself behind a building, feeling the need to be alone and away from everything.
Arianne had grown up in a world where nothing changed. Sometimes things happened, yes - like her parents' death, which had shaken her world terribly, but she had been able to regain her footing soon enough. Time passed. Years passed. Things were the same again.
And then her brother left, and she left. She adjusted to city life, and she met Matthias, and she was beginning to feel like things might be alright after all was said and done.
And now the footing was gone again.
This wouldn't have hurt her so badly if she had had more time. Time to get over Erryn's death. Time to get over that she might not ever know if her brother is alive or dead. Time to adjust. But there wasn't any time. Everything was just changing again, in the blink of an eye. And who has time to blink an eye slowly?
Yet, at the same time... the whole thing reminded her of something familiar. An old song. An old soldiers' song.
She sang it softly, just above a whisper. How could she not?
"Tonight is the morning
of a sunset after midnight
Where the sky is black
And the sun is bright
And the silent whispers
of yesterday
come for you
for you
Tonight is the night
Of the morning
Of now."
As she sang her voice grew slightly louder, just so, as she was able to wrap herself in the familiar notes. And after that was done, she sung it once more, just to make herself feel safer. To give her something to hold onto again.
