Calm hurts after a storm

Arianne finally stopped running once she was lost somewhere in the veins of the city. The soldiers were gone, but their damage was all too evident. She pressed her back against a wall and all she could see were streets that were filthy and bloody, filled with ash and rubble, and she could see so many dead, stinking bodies everywhere.

But yet, she didn't think about it too much. Instead all she could see was the wet blur in front of her eyes, and all she could hear was the numb ringing in her ears. Grief and shock mixed like oil and water to form a sickening, nauteus(sp) feeling.

She stood there, against the wall, panting slightly, breathing heavily, until finally she let herself slide down and rest her forehead on her knees, and the tears came. She sobbed. For Erryn, and for her country, for what had been done to it. Both were dear to her, especially Erryn, who was more like a brother than a cousin. And now he was gone.

As her thoughts wandered over the word "brother", she wondered if her brother, too, had been killed in the attack. Oh, she hoped not... she hoped not...

Ranik was too in the city (after all, he did fallow them. And by them, I mean arianne and matthias). He was walking through the streets. The damage was more then he thought possible. Much more than words can describe. he stopped when he saw arrianne. "Hey," he said, "didn't I see you running when the soldiers attacked?"


(ooc. sorry if I'm "butting in". I just Ranik to intereact with some players. The only time he did that was when he brought matthias water, and that doesn't really count because they didn't even say much to each other. soooooooooooooooooooooo, that's it.)

Arianne heard the man's voice, and glanced at him before putting her head down again. "I - I..." she said, but her voice would not yeild to her efforts to speak. The tears kept on coming, clogging her throat closed, and blurring her sight away.

"I - I'm sor-ry," she finally managed to say, through sobs. "I'm sorry, but I c-can't talk right now." And then, to herself, as a more general comment. "I can't..."

ooc: Sorry. My muse is deaded. -_-

"I see," Ranik said, "Well, bye then." Ranik started to walk away.

Arianne looked up and stared after him for a moment, wondering if she had sounded rude. Then, all at once, she thought that it didn't MATTER if she sounded rude. Why did it matter? She would probably never meet that man again. Even if she would... it didn't matter anyway.

ooc: Yeah, well, my post is pretty short, too. ^_^ Not much to say here. >_>
Is Matthias here, or did he go somewhere else...?

ooc: *confuzzled* What do you mean? When I asked if Matthias was "here", I meant the character, and "here" as in this thread, with Arianne. I was wondering if he came with her or if he sort of went off on his own somewhere else.

If he's here, as in, this thread, then you can just... post. *shrug* But if he went somewhere else... well, just have him walking through wherever doing whatever, or you can kind of... skip ahead a little bit, if you want. It's pretty open, methinks.

Anyway. But is Matthias (the character) in this thread or not? So I can stop trying to make it open all the time. =/

ooc: Ah. kk then.

Arianne sighed and forced herself to stand again. Her hands were over her eyes, as if trying to block the tears from coming out. She breathed in deeply, and let that breath out slowly, and shakily. Stop crying, she told herself. Stop crying now... it's alright... just stop crying...

It was just... hard.

She leaned against a wall, and thought blankly, What now? There she was, completely alone - she had no idea where Matthias had gone, and thought with a dull pain that she probably would never see him again. Of course. She shouldn't have expected anything less. Or, more accurately, anything more. She was "just Arianne", after all.

She thought this was exceptional calmless, and she accepted the pain in her heart - pain for everything - as if it was natural. Why wouldn't it be? That was life.

She sighed once more, wiping away tears that still wouldn't stop coming. That's life, she told herself, firmly. Shut up, stop crying for once, and grow a backbone.

And, with that thought in her head, she turned and walked away.
