The image quality is awful, which makes her look about ten years older than she is. Sorry bout that.

Matthias was not there yet when she arrived, but there was no doubt in her mind that he would come. She leaned against the wall and waited.

Arianne was hurt.
By nine o'clock, she thought he must have slept late and frankly did not blame him. By eleven, she was a little alarmed. By one, she was very alarmed. By three o'clock in the afternoon, she knew.
He wasn't coming.
She didn't expect it to hurt so much.
But it did. It hurt. It felt like all of the pains and worries her meeting with Matthias had pushed away fell atop her again, like a pile of books, a milllion miles faster and a million times more painful.
"Theives," she murmured, dazed. "Never change. They never change."
And then she was finished. Finished with this forsaken city, finished with this new life that she had been so determined to begin. Finished with everything. And, without so much as going back to the inn to get her things, with only three quartz and three silvers in her money pouch, she left the city.
She was going back to Thala.
She was finished.
