Ranik entered. He walked past everyone without really noticing them and went straight to order something. AFter that long journey, he found the ice cold, not really-warm-because-of sitting-in-a-backpack water very refreshing. heh he thought to himself, to think, a few days ago I was in the backwaters with muggers trying to rob me at every turn, and now i am in a nice tavern that serves quite good food. He looked around. I think i am going to like it here he thought to himself. For the first time in days, he could sit down and relax.

"Now all I need is a job," Ranik thought to himself, "and this looks like a good place to get one. probably alot better than the factory. "Excuse me," he said to the person behind the counter, "is there a job opening?"

The man looked up. "Eh?" he said. "Ah. Well, we could always use an extra pair of hands. Any skills?"

Ranik thought about this. He coudln't really think of anything that would come in handy at a tavern, but he decided to say something anyway. "Well," Ranik said, "I don't have many skills I can think of that would come in handy at a tavern, but I bet I could wait tables or something. Back at home I could hold a stack of plates quite easily. Even the ones with food on them. But trust me, who don't want me to be a chef or something like that. I would probably end up burning this building down or piosening the customers with bad cooking." Ranik hoped he wouldn't have an overly long job interview. He had had one of them before. That time, the man kept asking him questions Rank really didn't know how to answer. He hoped it wouldn't be like that this time.

The man stuck his jaw out and nodded slowly, thinking. Well, the kid looked hardworking enough, true. And it doesn't take a lot of brains to wait tables. "Alright," he finally said. "Twenty silvers a day. Go and wash your hands, then come back here."

Ranik nodded. He went and washed his hands then came back to the man. "So," he said, "when do i start?"

THe man scanned the room. "Now, I suppose," he said. "THough I think everyone's mostly taken care of. Just walk around and see if anyone needs anything."
