Arianne sat at a table, empty handed and hungry. After all those hours of singing and playing, she had barely earned more than a beggar's wage. Whatever she had come here with had been spent last night, on a meager dinner - and now its satisfaction had long since faded away.
If things keep up like this, she'd have to get a job as a servant in the palace - something that she so didn't want to do. But she had to eat. Had to sleep somewhere other than the streets.
But it was only the third day. No. It would get better.
It would get better.
Won't it?
Suddenly she felt homesick. Homesick and lonely and she wished more than anything that her brother hadn't taken that job in the factory, so she could still be living with him back in Thala.
But that was then. This is now.
She sighed.
