Erryn heard the franticness in Arianne's voice, and it scared him. He turned and glanced out the window; and, seeing what was there, immediately followed Arianne's orders. It was the only option. Erryn was no fighter, only a theif... and theives were good with shadows.
He embraced those shadows now, slipping into them and hiding between them. He made sure not to trap himself - made sure that there were two ways out of every hiding spot he considered. If they found him and blocked him off, he would be dead. No doubt about it. He must always have an escape.
He wondered about ARianne. Was she going to try and fight alone? That thought alarmed him - it seemed like something she would do. She was always so desperate to prove herself, but this... this was just stupid.
Still, he stayed hidden.

Matthias turned around. "Hiding is useless! We can definitely outrun them though, with all that armor on them. You have a back entrance here, right?"

She turned and nodded, quickly. He was right. It would be silly... she glanced down at the sword in her hand. Well. It would be put to good use someday, but not today. She loosened her hand about it, meaning to drop it, then stopped herself and tightened her grip again, realizing that if the soldiers caught up with them, she would need it. It was her only defense, this sword, as old and rusty as it was. It wasn't as if she could kill the soldiers by singing to them. The soldiers were coming at the small house fast, and the sound of their feet began to drown out other noise, filling the quiet meadow with its roar. Arianne screamed for Erryn. “We're running, Erryn!” she cried, and she moved to the back door and flung it open. Her heart thumped wildly in her chest. She had never been a part of something so... dangerous before, and the thought that if they could not get away, could not outrun those soldiers, then they would die... that thought frightened her greatly. When she looked back and saw that some of the soldiers – many, even – were on horseback, that fear heightened, and she realized that they have to leave NOW.
“Come!” she said, and slipped out of the door.

Erryn could hear the sound of the soldiers' footfalls growing louder and louder, to a sound that began to seem deafening to him, hiding in this little spot. It drowned out every other sound, not because it was so loud, but because his mind was so fixated upon it. It was the only sound that mattered to him.
And that was why he only heard the sound of Arianne's voice in the back of his mind, as a background noise. He didn't move from his spot.
And then the soldiers were practically upon the small house, just outside the window, just outside the door. And Erryn pushed himself farther into his hiding spot, hugging the shadows and hoping that the shadows embraced him, too.

Arianne, who had been running ahead, gasped in shock when she realized that Erryn wasn't with them. She whirled around on her heel, looking back at the little house. It was practically engulfed with soldiers. They were just outside the door, ready to trample it down at any moment. Her heart pounded. "Erryn!" she managed to cry, her voice dry and strangled. And then, louder, "ERRYN!!"
She grasped the sword in her hand. Could she make it there to get him in time? Or would she be killed? Probably the latter. The chances of a rather petite nineteen-year-old girl with a sword faring against a mob of well-trained, muscular soldiers was slim to none.
But... Erryn!
That was it. She loved her cousin. He was more like a brother than a cousin. She wasn't about to stand by and just let him die. Yet, she found that was all she could do. She was frozen, with fear or otherwise, and she couldn't make her muscles move. No... she thought, desperately.
And the moment was over. There was no time left.

The next thing Erryn knew, the soldiers were in the house. They tore open drawers and chests, and piled possessions into sacks carried by the riders on horseback. It was like a massive hurricane, whirling through the place - like a roaring rainstorm. In his hiding spot, he stiffened.'
There was no way that they wouldn't find him. This was it. This was it.
And then a soldier found him.
For a moment that seemed to last forever, he stared wide-eyed into the blank face of the soldier. Their eyes met, but the soldier's held no emotion, no feeling. No pity to work off of. No quilt to manipulate.
And then the sword was shoved into Erryn's chest, in one huge spike of pain, and he collapsed to his knees, gasping.
The world blurred. Noise faded. It was just him, now. He could feel the life slipping from him. He thought of Arianne and her brother, who never learned that he was no longer a theif. He prayed that Matthias would tell Arianne that Erryn was the one that convinced him to quit theivery, but he didn't know if he would. Matthias had hardly seemed to recognise him.
Goodbye, he finally thought, after these concerns passed through his mind, and he let himself slump forward, let his injured heart stop, let his breath cease. And he was dead.

OOC: Okay, I want to post, but at the same time I don't, because Matthias hasn't posted in like, 6 posts. If you're reading this, are you gone or what? If you're going to leave, can you please do it after this thread is done so Arianne's not stuck? Thanks.

Matthias, you have three days to post something before you're character is given a suspension-type thing - however, it will leave things open if you want to come back. Chances are, we'll just say that Matthias high-tailed it out of there. So that way, you could come back IF you're willing to post relatively often. Anyway. It hasn't come to that yet. Three days, okay? You're tying up Arianne and Erryn... well, not Erryn, cuz he's dead.

ooc: Um. Okay. Arianne turned, watching wide-eyed for the few moments that it took for the little house to be destroyed. It took her a few seconds to realize what had happened. And then she realized that her home was gone. And then, another moment later: Erryn was dead. Erryn is dead. And then it just hurt; and that was all she felt. She tried to keep her head clear. She straightened herself up and ran, ignoring the pain running through her heart and head, and trying hard, hard, hard not to cry. Crying wouldn't help now. Crying would be a nuisance now. Not now. She fled into the streets of Thala. [ooc: I don't know if Matthias sticks with her or not. But she'll be there next.]
